Rockdale Supervisor of Elections Cynthia Willingham said her office began mailing absentee ballots April 21 for the June 9 elections.
State officials announced on April 9 that Georgia’s May 19 elections were pushed to June 9 due to health risks concerning COVID-19. Officials said many poll workers across the state had quitand elections officials needed more time to assess and prepare for in-person voting.
Willingham said her office is encouraging voters to mail in ballots. She said voters who have already requested an absentee ballot do not need to make another request because of the new election date. The ballot will be issued.
“We are still accepting and processing absentee by mail ballot requests for the June 9 election,” Willingham said.
The last day that absentee ballots will be mailed to voters is June 5, Willingham said. All mail-in ballots must be received at the Rockdale Board of Elections Office by June 9, Election Day.
Rockdale has issued 9,610 absentee ballots so far, Willingham said. The county has 62,356 active voters.
