Georgia drivers now have until June 15 to update annual tag registrations following a recent Georgia Department of Revenue announcement. The extension will provide motorists whose vehicle registrations are set to expire between March 16 and June 14 with an extension to June 15 without incurring late fees.
The new date applies to provide owners of personal passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, vehicles registered in the International Registration Plan (IRP) and Temporary Operating Permits (TOPs). Vehicle registrations that expired before March 16, do not qualify for this extension.
Registration suspensions also do not qualify.
Across the state, a number of local tax commissioners have temporarily closed office locations to combat the spread of COVID-19. DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Irvin J. Johnson is reminding customers that while his office buildings may be closed to the public due to the coronavirus threat, many tax-related transactions can still occur online and customers have the option to renew their annual motor vehicle registrations and pay insurance fines at five conveniently located Kroger kiosks as well as online or by mail.
Phone lines are currently inactive as the office allows employees to work remotely. However, taxpayers with questions may contact the office directly at tag@dekalbcountyga.gov.
“As we continue to monitor the data related to this global pandemic and adjust our businesses practices to align with DeKalb County Government and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), my office will remain closed to the public out of an abundance of caution for our employees and customers’ safety and wellbeing,” said Johnson “Our local Kroger kiosks have seen a spike in recent activity, with many DeKalb residents taking advantage of these convenient alternatives to coming in our standard office buildings.”
