March is celebrated as so many wonderful things. It’s Women’s History Month, and we recognize the founder of AARP, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who had a dream to help “seniors” live life on their own terms and age in place. To read more about Dr. Andrus’s remarkable life, please check here:

AARP also uses March to help people discuss finances.  The AARP Money Map is an online tool that helps you manage unexpected medical, car, or home expenses. Money Map provides tips on negotiating your costs to suggesting different payment options: While you’re there, check out the Social Security Resource Center that will answer the top questions you have about how your benefits are calculated and how to apply for social security:

Because AARP will continue to hold events virtually—at least through the fall—you can attend many of our activities from across the state from the comfort of your homes. That even includes Tax-Aide!

With Tax Day looming, you still have a chance to get your taxes prepared online and, in a few places, in-person with a scheduled appointment. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. If you are 50+ and have a low to moderate income, please contact Tax-Aide at or 1-888-687-2277.

Coming up on Saturday, March 27, 1 p.m., best-selling author Tina McElroy Ansa and NABJ Hall of Famer Wanda S. Lloyd will discuss “Meeting at the Table,” an anthology of curated works from women of color who share their thoughts and feelings about self-care, healing and disparities in the light of the pandemic and social unrest of 2020.
